FVMA ONAM 2026: CELEBRATE KERALA’S BIGGEST FESTIVAL IN THE FRASER VALLEY

Onam is almost here, and this year the Fraser Valley Malayalee Association (FVMA) is getting ready for a celebration filled with tradition, colour, music, dance, community, and one of the biggest highlights of the season — a traditional Onasadya.

Join us on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Way, Abbotsford, BC.

Registration opens at 11:30 a.m., Onasadya will be served in scheduled rounds beginning at noon, and the main cultural program begins at 2:30 p.m.

A CELEBRATION OF ONAM, TOGETHER

Onam is one of Kerala’s most cherished festivals. It is a celebration of culture, heritage, abundance, gratitude, and community, and is traditionally associated with the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali.

For Malayalees living far from Kerala, Onam is also a chance to recreate a little piece of home — wearing traditional attire, meeting friends and family, watching our children experience our culture, enjoying music and dance, and sharing a traditional feast together.

That is what FVMA Onam 2026 is all about.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF ONAM: ONASADYA BY SPICE OF MALABAR

You cannot talk about Onam without talking about Sadya.

This year, FVMA’s Onasadya will be prepared by Spice of Malabar, with a traditional spread featuring 20 items served in classic Kerala style.

From the crunch of upperi and pappadam to aviyal, thoran, kalan and olan, followed by parippu and sambar with Matta rice, every item has its place on the leaf.

And then comes dessert.

This year’s Sadya finishes with both Ada Pradhaman and Semiya Payasam.
