Call for Nominations: FVMA Board of Directors, 2027 Term

FVMA is accepting nominations for the Board of Directors for the 2027 term.

Each year, FVMA members elect directors to govern the Association for the coming term. Members who want to take an active role in FVMA's work can nominate themselves or another eligible member.

Nominations opened on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and completed nomination forms must be received by 6:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

How the FVMA Board is elected

Under the FVMA Bylaws, the Board consists of a minimum of three and a maximum of twelve directors.

Members elect the directors. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer are not elected directly by the general membership. Once the new Board has been confirmed, the directors meet to select the office bearers from among themselves.

The directors elected through this process will serve for the 2027 term.

Who can be nominated?

A person elected or appointed to the FVMA Board must hold Regular Membership in the Association and must be in good standing at the time of election or appointment.

If you're interested in serving but your membership isn't currently active, please complete the FVMA membership process before the election. Membership information is available at fvmabc.org.

Serving on the Board involves more than helping with individual events. Directors collectively oversee the affairs of the Association, participate in Board decisions and help manage the programs, finances, records and other responsibilities that come with operating FVMA.

Members considering a nomination should be prepared to participate throughout the term and work with the rest of the Board on the Association's activities and administration.

Election timeline

The dates for the 2027 Board election are:

• September 22, 2026: Call for nominations published

• October 22, 2026 at 6:00 PM PDT: Deadline to submit nominations

• October 25, 2026: Deadline for candidates to withdraw

• November 14, 2026: Final verified candidate list published

• November 28, 2026: FVMA Annual General Meeting and Board election, if an election is required

The AGM notice, including the time, venue, agenda and other meeting information, will be issued separately.

How to submit a nomination

All nominations must be submitted using the official FVMA Board of Directors Election Nomination Form.

The form must be completed and signed by both the nominee and the proposer. The nominee's signature confirms their consent to stand for election, while the proposer's signature confirms the nomination.

Completed forms may be emailed to elections@fvmabc.org or delivered in person to the Returning Officer.

The deadline is Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 6:00 PM PDT. Forms received after the deadline cannot be accepted, and incomplete forms may be rejected.

If you're submitting the form by email, check that all required information and signatures are included and that the completed form is clearly readable.

What happens after nominations close?

Once nominations close, the Returning Officer will review the submissions and verify that the nomination requirements have been met. Candidates will then have until October 25 to withdraw their nominations.

The next step depends on the number of valid nominations remaining after the withdrawal deadline.

If there are between three and twelve valid nominations, those nominees will be considered elected to the Board and a contested election will not be required.

If there are more than twelve valid nominations, an election will be held during the AGM on November 28, 2026. Members eligible to vote will be able to vote for up to twelve candidates, and the twelve candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to the Board.

If fewer than three valid nominations are received, FVMA's Operational Procedures provide for nominations to be called from the floor of the AGM so that the minimum number of directors required by the Bylaws can be met.

The final verified candidate list will be published on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

Voting at the AGM

Members must be in good standing to vote at a general meeting. Under the FVMA Bylaws, a member whose applicable membership dues remain unpaid is not in good standing and cannot vote while those dues remain outstanding.

Proxy voting is not permitted. If you intend to participate in an election, make sure your membership is current before the AGM.

If an election is required, details about the voting process will be provided with the AGM information.

What happens after the AGM?

Once the Board has been elected or confirmed, the new directors will meet to select the office bearers for the 2027 term, including the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

The outgoing Board will then work with the incoming Board on the formal transition of FVMA responsibilities, including records, financial access, digital accounts, assets and ongoing matters. This handover will give the new Board the information and access needed to continue the Association's work.

Considering serving on the Board?

FVMA's programs and activities are run by volunteers, and Board members take on much of the responsibility for organizing and administering that work.

Serving as a director gives members a direct role in decisions about the Association and in carrying those decisions out. It requires time and commitment, but it is also one of the most direct ways a member can contribute to how FVMA operates.
